Artturi Lehkonen, Andrew Cogliano and Alex Newhook scored against former teammate Darcy Kuemper and the surging Colorado Avalanche held off the Washington Capitals 3-2 on Tuesday night to give coach Jared Bednar his franchise-record 266th victory.

Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos scored his 500th career goal in the first period against the Vancouver Canucks and finished with a hat trick in the 5-2 win on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old center took a slick pass from Alex Killorn and put a backdoor tap in past goalie Spencer Martin to open the scoring 4:40 into the period.

An 8-5 victory Saturday against the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center gave the Seattle Kraken the distinction of being the first team in NHL history to sweep a road trip of at least seven games.

Nicklas Backstrom and Tom Wilson made their season debuts and the Washington Capitals blanked the Columbus Blue Jackets 1-0 on Sunday night.

It marked the first time Backstrom and Wilson took the ice at Capital One Arena since the first round of last year's Stanley Cup playoffs in May. Both underwent major procedures in the offseason -- Backstrom had hip resurfacing surgery and Wilson had ACL surgery.

"You can't ever take it for granted, playing in the NHL, the fans, and the roar when Nick and I came out," Wilson said, summing up the day. "It's a pretty special feeling."
